În religie, un profet este un individ despre care se susține că a fost contactat de către supranatural sau divin și de a vorbi pentru ei, servind ca intermediar al omenirii, oferind această nouă cunoaștere găsită de entitatea supranaturală altor popoare. Mesajul pe care Profetul îl transmite este numit o profeție. Revendicările profeției au existat în multe culturi prin istorie, printre care iudaismul, creștinismul, islamul, în Grecia antică, zoroastrianismul și multe altele. În mod tradițional, profeții sunt considerați ca având un rol în societate care promovează schimbarea datorită mesajelor și acțiunilor lor. Cuvantul englezesc profet vine de la cuvintul grecesc profet care inseamna avocat.
