Transparență și translucență
În domeniul opțiunii, transparența este proprietatea fizică de a permite lumina să treacă prin material fără a fi împrăștiată. Translucența este un super-set de transparență: permite trecerea lumina, dar nu respectă neapărat legea lui Snell; fotonii pot fi împrăștiați la oricare dintre cele două interfețe unde există o schimbare a indicelui de refracție sau intern.
