Dans la programmation des systèmes, une interruption est un signal pour le processeur émis par un matériel ou un logiciel indiquant un événement qui nécessite une attention immédiate. Une interruption avertit le processeur d'une condition de priorité élevée nécessitant l'interruption du code actuel que le processeur exécute. Le processeur répond en suspendant ses activités actuelles, en sauvegardant son état et en exécutant un petit programme appelé un gestionnaire d'interruption pour traiter l'événement. Cette interruption est temporaire, et une fois le gestionnaire d'interruption terminé, le processeur reprend l'exécution du thread précédent. Il existe deux types d'interruptions: une interruption matérielle est un signal d'alerte électronique envoyé au processeur à partir d'un périphérique externe, soit une partie de l'ordinateur tel qu'un contrôleur de disque ou un périphérique externe. Par exemple, appuyer sur une touche du clavier ou déplacer la souris déclenche des interruptions matérielles qui font que le processeur lise la frappe ou la position de la souris. Contrairement au type de logiciel, les interruptions matérielles sont asynchrones et peuvent se produire au milieu de l'exécution de l'instruction, nécessitant des soins supplémentaires dans la programmation.

In systems programming, an interrupt is a signal to the processor emitted by hardware or software indicating an event that needs immediate attention. An interrupt alerts the processor to a high-priority condition requiring the interruption of the current code the processor is executing. The processor responds by suspending its current activities, saving its state, and executing a small program called an interrupt handler to deal with the event. This interruption is temporary, and after the interrupt handler finishes, the processor resumes execution of the previous thread. There are two types of interrupts: A hardware interrupt is an electronic alerting signal sent to the processor from an external device, either a part of the computer itself such as a disk controller or an external peripheral. For example, pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse triggers hardware interrupts that cause the processor to read the keystroke or mouse position. Unlike the software type , hardware interrupts are asynchronous and can occur in the middle of instruction execution, requiring additional care in programming.
