L'écriture
L'écriture est un moyen de communication qui représente le langage par l'inscription de signes et de symboles. Au fur et à mesure que les sociétés humaines émergeaient, le développement de l'écriture était motivé par des exigences pragmatiques telles que l'échange d'informations, le maintien des comptes financiers, la codification des lois et l'enregistrement de l'histoire. Vers le 4ème millénaire av. J.-C., la complexité du commerce et de l'administration en Mésopotamie dépassait la mémoire humaine, et l'écriture devenait une méthode plus sûre d'enregistrement et de présentation des transactions sous une forme permanente.
