Armonie
În muzică, armonie este utilizarea de smochine simultane sau acorduri. Studiul armoniei presupune acorduri, construcția lor și progresele acordurilor și principiile de legătură care le guvernează. Armonia se spune adesea că se referă la aspectul "vertical" al muzicii, distins de linia melodică sau aspectul "orizontal". Contrapunctul, care se referă la interconectarea liniilor melodice, și polifonie, care se referă la relația dintre voci separate independente, se disting uneori de armonie. În armonie populară și jazz, coardele sunt numite de rădăcină, plus numeroși termeni și caractere care indică calitățile lor.
