Protest
Un protest este o expresie a obiecției prin cuvinte sau prin acțiuni la anumite evenimente, politici sau situații. Protesturile pot lua multe forme diferite; de la declarații individuale la demonstrații în masă. Protestatarii pot organiza un protest ca modalitate de a-și face publice opiniile în încercarea de a influența opinia publică sau politica guvernamentală sau pot întreprinde acțiuni directe în încercarea de a adopta în mod direct modificările dorite. În cazul în care protestele fac parte dintr-o campanie sistematică și pașnică pentru atingerea unui anumit obiectiv și implică utilizarea presiunii și a convingerii, ele depășesc simpla protest și pot fi mai bine descrise ca cazuri de rezistență civilă sau rezistență nonviolentă. Diferitele forme de auto-exprimare și de protest sunt uneori restricționate de politica guvernamentală, circumstanțele economice, ortodoxia religioasă, structurile sociale sau monopolul mass-mediei. Atunci când se produc astfel de restricții, protestele pot lua forma neascultării civile deschise, forme mai subtile de rezistență împotriva restricțiilor sau pot să se reverse în alte domenii precum cultura și emigrarea. Un protest poate fi uneori obiectul unui contra-protest.
