Amator
Un amator este în general considerat o persoană atașată unei anumite căutări, studii sau științe într-o manieră neprofesională sau neremunerată. Amatori adesea au puțin sau deloc formare formală în căutarea lor, iar mulți sunt autodidactați. Amateurismul poate fi văzut atât în lumină negativă, cât și în lumină pozitivă. Din moment ce amatori adesea nu au pregătire formală, unele activități amatori pot fi considerate sub-par. De exemplu, sportivii amatori din sport, cum ar fi baschet, baseball sau fotbal, sunt considerați ca având un nivel mai scăzut de capacitate decât sportivii profesioniști.
