Plăcerea descrie clasa largă de stări mentale pe care oamenii și alte animale le simt ca fiind pozitive, plăcute sau merită căutate. Acesta include stări mentale mai specifice, cum ar fi fericirea, divertismentul, bucuria, extazul și euforia. În psihologie, principiul plăcerii descrie plăcerea ca un mecanism de feedback pozitiv, motivând organismul să recreeze în viitor situația pe care tocmai a găsit-o plăcută. Conform acestei teorii, organismele sunt motivate în mod similar pentru a evita situațiile care au provocat dureri în trecut. Experiența plăcerii este subiectivă și indivizii diferiți vor experimenta diferite tipuri și cantități de plăcere în aceeași situație. Multe experiențe plăcute sunt asociate cu satisfacerea unităților biologice de bază, cum ar fi mâncarea, exercițiul, sexul sau defecarea. Alte experiențe plăcute sunt asociate cu experiențele sociale și cu forțele sociale, cum ar fi experiențele de realizare, recunoaștere și slujire. Aprecierea artefactelor și a activităților culturale, cum ar fi arta, muzica și literatura, este adesea plăcută.
