Sambala este o specie de țărână care locuiește în mediul forestier, în special în Rusia, din Munții Ural, din Siberia, Kazahstanul de Est, Mongolia de Nord, China, Coreea de Nord și Coreea de Sud și Hokkaidō din Japonia. Gama sa în sălbăticie sa extins inițial prin Rusia Europeană în Polonia și în Scandinavia.
