mar

Sea

Mar

A sea is a mass of saltwater below the ocean, as well as the whole body of salt water that covers most of the surface of the planet Earth, including oceans and smaller seas. The term sea is also used to designate some large brackish lakes, such as the Caspian Sea, Dead Sea or the Aral Sea. One speaks of closed sea or inland. In accordance with the use made of it, it should be noted that seafarers and poets tend to attribute the female gender. Beyond these two areas, masculine use of the word has become widespread. World Maritime Day is the 26th of August.
