În contextul unui proces ipotecar, toleranța este un acord special între creditor și debitor pentru a întârzia o blocare a pieței. Sensul literal al toleranței este "reținerea înapoi". Împrumutații împrumuturilor au uneori probleme în efectuarea plăților. Acest lucru poate determina creditorul să înceapă procesul de blocare. Pentru a evita blocarea pieței, creditorul și împrumutatul pot face un acord numit "toleranță". Conform acestui acord, creditorul își amâne dreptul de a-și exercita excluderea în cazul în care împrumutatul își poate recupera programul de plată într-un anumit moment. Această perioadă și planul de plată depind de detaliile acordului care sunt acceptate de ambele părți.
