Societate
O societate umană este un grup de persoane implicate în relații interpersonale persistente sau o mare grupare socială care împărtășește același teritoriu geografic sau social, supus în mod obișnuit aceleiași autorități politice și așteptări culturale dominante. Societățile omenești sunt caracterizate de modele de relații între indivizi care au o cultură distinctivă și instituții; o anumită societate poate fi descrisă ca suma totală a unor astfel de relații între membrii săi constituenți. În științele sociale, o societate mai mare evidențiază adesea structuri de stratificare sau dominare în subgrupuri. În măsura în care este în colaborare, o societate poate permite membrilor săi să beneficieze în moduri care altfel nu ar fi posibile pe o bază individuală; atît beneficiile individuale cît și cele sociale pot fi distinse sau, în multe cazuri, se pot suprapune. O societate poate consta, de asemenea, din oameni simetrici, guvernați de propriile lor norme și valori într-o societate dominantă, mai largă.
