PRONUNCIATION OF CABOTAGE IN GERMAN

Cabotage

WHAT DOES CABOTAGE MEAN IN GERMAN?

cabotage

Cabotage refers to the provision of transport services within a country by a foreign transport company. The term originally comes from the shipping industry and means coastal shipping, ie the journey from Cape to Cape or between the different ports of the region. The word probably comes from the French cabot, following the Italian explorer Sebastiano Caboto, who sailed along the coast of North America in the 16th century, and later on in the Spanish coast along the South American coast, without losing sight of the coast. The concept was originally used for maritime transport since the 15th century, namely for transporting passengers or for freight transport, later also for ▪ air transport, ▪ land transport. Originally, cabotage simply means "transport services within a country". Today cabotage is understood to mean "transport services within a country provided by foreign transport companies".
